What is YoungStar?

YoungStar is Wisconsin’s child care quality rating and improvement system. YoungStar supports Wisconsin’s child care providers by offering resources, training, and technical assistance designed to enhance their quality of care. It is a voluntary program that helps centers to go above and beyond! 

 

What does this mean for families?

Quality early care makes a big difference in your little one’s life, and in yours. While you’re at work, you want to know your child is safe and secure, and gaining the knowledge and social skills that set the stage for a successful tomorrow. ​Through YoungStar, parents are able to compare the quality of care their children will receive using an established, measurable standard.

YoungStar was created by the WI Department of Children and Families to support families in identifying quality care. It evaluates the quality of care given by regulated child care providers and rates them from 1 Star to 5 Stars, with 5 Stars being the highest rating.

A provider’s star rating is based on:​​

• Education Qualifications and Training of each staff member

• Learning Environment and Curriculum and tracking methods

• Professional and Business Practices

• Child Health and Well-Being Practices

We are excited to share that in our first eligible year to participate, we achieved the highest possible rating - a 4 star rating! This means, we satisfied all criteria to be a YoungStar participating provider and went above and beyond in 4 additional areas of high quality practice. For next year's evaluation, we will be eligible to be reach a 5 star rating!
